The Young People’s Open Theatre Project is an Educational Youth Theater Organization which has been operating in Anaconda since 2013. The theatre functions under the umbrella of the Copper Village Museum and Arts Center in Anaconda. Due to losses in revenue due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the organization is seeking funding for the continuation of theatre educations programming.

Every year the group produces a youth touring production for young audiences which performs for the schoolchildren in Anaconda, Philipsburg, Deer Lodge, Hall, Drummond and Ramsay and is always branching out to different schools in the area. These shows feature youth as the performers and are mulitcultural in nature and often involve folk tales from different countries. Some of past productions include, WHY MOSQUITO’S BUZZ, CINDERELLA: A MULTICULTURAL TALE, TARHEEL TALES, ANNE AND THE TIGER RAJA, THE MISCHIEF MAKERS.

OTP has also been producing shows in collaboration with Aanaconda JR/SR. High school. Productions have included William Shakespeare's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, CLUE, The Musical and ANIMAL FARM.

OTP also holds a Summer Musical Theatre Workshop every summer at the Copper Village Arts Center. The participants learn about music, vocal performance, dance and the staging of a musical. At the end of the two week workshop they perform in a short musical theatre production.

The Artistic Director of the organization, Sue Konicek, has over 20 years of experience as a director, teacher and arts administrator. She has directed and taught young people, as well as adults, in schools and universities and community and professional theatres around the U.S. She served as the Artistic Director of the Orphan Girl Theatre in Butte for six years before moving to Anaconda and starting The Open Theatre Project. Sue holds a BA in music theatre and an MFA in theatre: emphasis in directing.
